According to Pirates of the Rubicon....Death Wobble happens and I should get over it. Im just wondering what "death Wobble" is.

I think I also vaguely remember someone doing a leaf spring conversion on the back of their TJ to get rid of wobble or death wobble...

So whats up... What is Death Wobble?

Its when you hit a bump in your newly lifted jeep at just the right speed and the front end feels like its gonna shake and vibrate off before you can gain control of your heep again. not fun

...another common cause of the dreaded death wobble is not correcting your caster on the front axle when lifting said beloved heep...and until you experience it firsthand, it IS where the term whiteknuckle was coined!

It's scary on a 4 wheeler, but positivitly terrifying on a motorcycle, and usually means something isn't balanced or aligned correctly.

A steering stabilizer in good working order solves most problems, but keeping everything aligned and balanced is the best cure.

Steering stabilizers and new shocks mask the problem. I'm not downing them at all cuz I really like to have very tight steering on my jeep. Dropped pitman arm and high steer combined with steering stabilizer and performance shocks are the best cure

Nick...I agree Brother, fix what is causing it and then u can use a stabilizer to tighten things up after the problem is taken care of. I run 2 on the XJ, but not until new ball joints, good alignment, correct steering and front end geometry and perfectly balanced tires...THEN I put the stabilizers on after everything was smooth as silk.

leaves in the back will make no difference for death wobble it has to do with the front. Thus the reason XJ's still get death wobble. There are so many possible factors as to what could cause it on a jeep. But one of the biggest is their crappy steering system.

So what exactly are we talking about with the wobble...

Is this more an on the trail/obstacle thing here or can it happen on pavement too.

Whats it like....you know...does the vehicle litterly wobble from side to side or do teh axles bounce around alot???

Im 30% blond so I get to ask a couple dumb ass questions a year ya know....

Pavement...trail speeds are too low for the wobble to surface normelly....highway spped + death wobble + pucker factor through the roof!!!

Yeah dude its pavement speed of roughly 20 mph and up. I drove my last YJ without steering stabilizer, dropped pitman, and no front shocks all on a 5" suspension lift. And wow that was freaking scarry on non-paved or poorly paved roads. Like harley said trails speeds are low and it should be way to bumpy to notice

Keeping checking it though... the stabilier is masking something.

Just looked the word up in the dictionary and there was a pic of my Jeep! God, I have to get that fixed....not scared of a lot but put the first Death Wobble right up there with a total parachute malfunction! (I survived them both :D )
