Thought I would trow this out there.

IF your willing to give the class down in Spotsylvania (my house) I have a cherokee that can be rolled over, stuck, ect to be used to "recover" I also have the land (wooded) to hold it on.

Just a thought.

Ol SNAP! Now that is an awesome offer!!

Having the Cherokee that can be rolled would work into a 201 series of classes nicely; Righting a rolled vehicle, extracting an injured driver, using the Jack Mate with the High Lift for extracting, etc.....

With that being said, I do not know when the 201 Series of classes will be launched. I do know that the BOD were looking for a location for the 101 recovery classes. JeepinSolider is PI'ing that block of instruction and may be contacting you soon.

One question about the land. Does it have elevation, water or rock on it? Trying to see what it has to offer in terms of training scenarios.

Chad, that is a sweet idea. I will run it past everyone else and maybe we can set a date to have an extraction class .

Wow what a great offer! The training aid AND the location. I love it when a plan comes together.

Remember we discussed advanced recovery and extrication? Diddent 79 say he could teach extraction? (I can too as an EMT-B but Im rusty.)

Any way, want to review the 101 course outline I have approved already, the n develop the 201 outline while I am finishing the first class?

JeepinSolider,
No worries on putting together a 201 Series Class Outline for review. 79CJ did volunteer for supporting medical aspects training as well as any of the other 201 recovery class stuff. We can probably work out an outline in the next week or two that we can submit to the BOD for approval. We can turn this around pretty darn quick and have it ready to sink up the month after your 101 class or when ever the schedule allows.
I will hit you off line for some cord efforts.

Cheers!

When preparing the classes all experiance is welcome. With towing experiance Im sure you would be able to provide valuable input on rigging a chain for hookup point on vehicles without tow hooks.

I assume you are talking about righting rolled vehicles, planning the recovery, etc. I am sure that he has seen some crazy scenarios in those 10 years. Hit me on the PM with details.

That will tie in nicely with what I am looking at for part of the 201 classes. Part of it will be Post Rollover Procedures and extracting a trapped driver and using the High-Lift & Jack Mate as a "Jaws of Life". Of course all of this will be outlined and have to be approved by the BOD to ensure that it is desired as part of the forecasted training.

I PM'ed you with some thoughts.

Can non-memebers attend for the value of the lesson?

My CJ may finally be driveable in the spring, but I'd love to learn the basics of recovery.

I have yet to join for lack of M&G and trail ride attendance.

So can I show up or what.........

Blair

The intent is to have the classes open to non-members. Most of these are safety oriented and we would like to see everyone being safety conscious out in the wood, on the rocks and in the fields.

The first one or two might be member only to work the kinks out of the lesson material and exercises. For you, Blair, just about all of us know you and if you want to subject yourself to our non-polished version then I have no problem with it. We will probably pepper you with questions about presentation and understandability of the material for the "honor".

Man, There will not be anything left of my poor cherokee....

Neverless, I can tow it to a spot thats not to far if you guys can come up with a place to have it. Just remember, that it does NOT RUN so it would have to be a spot I can get my trailer into without tearing everthing to hell

If you guys want to consider a alternate place, we have some land in the family in Northern Culpeper County.

It's maybe 10 or 15 minutes from Remington off Rte. 29, about 5 minutes from the Faquier County line.

A couple open fields, woods, a creek, some grade breaks, couple small hills in the back in the woods. This is where I plan on taking my Jeep to shake it down in the coming months.

There's also a little country store there that belongs to the family for your snacking needs, unfortuneately you'd have to pay, I don't have that much clout.

Check it out:

Plenty of space for everybody and their Jeep. An option for you.

Thanks for the inclusion Dave.

I would take any type of information wether it be polished or not, a great resource for me to learn from.

You guys are a wealth of knowledge, whatever you come up with should be well worth it.

I'm looking forward to it anyhow.

That would work for me. It would mean I would only have to tow it 25 miles or so.

Hope I didn't step on toes there. I was looking at the post and it looked like some were looking for a more central location.

I was thinking maybe it would be a bit closer than your joint.

Although, if it was held at your house, I could load the CJ on my trailer, and you have a 220v welder right? And a torch? And a press.... and tools..........

We still have not settled on a location for this class and it is supposed to be at the end of the month. Blair has made this gracious offer and I propose that we take him up on it. Waiting until the last minute to settle on a location is never a good thing. Blair has said that he needs his families permission first.

JeepinSoldier proposes that we accept Blair's offer of a location to host the recovery class and ask his family for permission.

All in favor say aye.

All against say nay.

Better to have permission and pull out if we have a better spot fall in our laps than to wait the last minute and end up doing this in the parking lot at the mall.

Just saw this. I'll slide by and chat up the elders and see what the answer is.

I don't forsee a problem.

Mostly a reasurance of lack of field damage.

I'll do my best to get in touch with them tonight or tomorrow.

Blair

EDIT: One thing I'd like to put out, could a waiver possibly be considered to protect my Uncle (primary land owner), and the small store that he runs on the property God forbid something were to happen?

Blair,

Thanks for asking for us. I think a liability waiver is a good idea, we already have them to protect the club.

Done, there will be language to clarify that your Uncle is not receiving financial profit, is not organizing this event and in reality falls under the Good Samaritan laws for donating the use of land for this event. In Virginia, if you allow free recreation on your land then your liability for personal injury is waved. This law partially came about from protecting land owners from injury claims by hunters on private land and has been extended to other recreation uses like mountain biking, hiking, fishing, etc.

Anyone have a guesstimate of headcount?

Just for info to pass to him when I ask.

Hard to know how many people will attend. A guess would be 15 - 40. Depends on how many commit and show up. I think people are waiting to commit until they find out how far they have to drive.

No major crossroads nearby that I can think of.

I don't know if it would show up on your guys GPS, but there is a gravel road right close that is called Milam Ridge Road IIRC. Shows up on the paper maps.

Fields to the left, right, rear of the house and store.

All else is woods. Nothing huge, but big enough for your class hopefully.

To the right of your highlight, under the "E" in Edwards Shop Road is where we used to live.

God I miss that little piece of heaven.
