View Full Version : April Alternative?

Realizing several folks will probably go to the Outer Banks, we are not sure we can get away for the whole weekend.

Would anyone be interested in a ride somewhere else for a day trip like last weekend as a alternative ride in April?

For all I care we could do the same trail again. I don't care, just want to get out more.

Hell I might just sell the CJ and buy a lift and tires for the Commander...... :tape2:

Thoughts?

Travel near the back of the pack. That way when you forget your camera, you know someone else ahead of you will get some pictures.

Only when its been wet, if its been dry you eat 15 other vehicles dust and its so thick inside vehicle it takes a putty knife to scrape it into the vaccum cleaner. Trust me I still have some in the air vents that blows out some time.

Doesn't even have to be Spring break weekend, just a alternative April ride for those that want to get out and can't get to the Outer Banks with the Blondin/Gift families.

Last weekend was Flag Pole, I haven't been there in years (the forest in general) there are several other trails out there, but I'm not familiar with them.

I think Flag pole up and back could be fun, or we could do one of the others.

I know of one in the Rapidan management area, which is alot closer to NoVA.

It's south of Culpeper about 30 minutes. It's a fairly short trail though.

Could do a quick Peters Mill run and let those with quads/dirtbikes wanting to go out join in.

I could be down for a day trip as well. Closer to home is easier if Anya comes along. Petra has Sundays off so that normally works better. First weekend in April is out for us, but whatever the group wants.

Could do Green Ridge, MD its not to far and pretty mild ride long as it hasnt been extremly wet. I heard over at Nova that they cancelled there Apr9th run at Peters mill because it was supposed to have all but the 1st 1.5 miles shut down to OHV traffic. Not sure how long that was supposed to be in effect though.

I'll call the Ranger Station and check on it later today.
The first mile and a half is the best part of it for the hill climb.

It is all measured in kilometers on the trail though. I think the small pond is at the 6-8 km mark.
Isn't Icebreakers in April at the Cove?

April 30 - May 1
Can be expensive for those new to the game. But it is a thought.
Wouldn't be an official B4WD function, since the OBX one is doing that for the month.

I'm starting to hit Soccer season and Saturdays eaten up with my son, so maybe a Sunday run would be good.
If anyone is wanting Flagpole again, I can guide it just give me a side seat.
I'm not familar enough with Dictium Ridge or 2nd Mountain to do any of the guiding there. Spot yes, guide no.

I don't think 2nd Mt is, Dictium's unknown. I didn't ask about them last time I called the Ranger Station. But both are on the North side of 33, so they would have been in the fire zones.

Sent from the Club with the dancer on my lap.

At this point I believe for the outer banks trip will be cancelled . Jeff and I will be at the beach that week end but not until late Saturday. I am not bringing my Jeep down, so I am not planing on doing a ride while I'm there. My brother Jeff was going to do it with his 4dr wrangler but he sold it before the trip so I believe he is out too.

So, does somebody want to step up and post the alternative April trip as a real deal?

Finalize a date, post up some plans and people will sign up. GWNF or Greenridge are trips that everybody loves, everybody can handle, etc.

For more adventurous, I'm going to post a May Rausch trip -- members only. (Some of you who need another event to become a member may want to participate in something between now and May.)

So, who wants to take charge of April?

blthomas

I had wanted too, but in the prospect of a PT job that will keep me busy all weekend every weekend.

I'll know more in the next day or two, otherwise I'd post it up this morning.

Frank,
May 13-15 is Camp Military Jeepers at the Cove here in Winchester. :usa:
And the Falls Church Auto Show as well.
So you might want to plan around those for your Rausch trip.

So May 21 for Rausch?

Love to up to Rausch. Could T's TJ do some stuff or are we wasting fuel to take a mostly stock Jeep there?

Have to see how things work out for us.

I wouldn't say it's wasting fuel. Loads of fun at Rausch.

Some people tell you Rausch can be done stock if you're careful. I don't buy it -- too many pitfalls, too much temptation.

Does the TJ have skids and rock rails now? That could work. You'd want to stick to the greens and walk/ride/take pics when the group does blues and blacks. But that's easy to do if you have the discipline.

It's a huge property, lots of room to roam, lots of bypasses, lots of interlocking trails so it's easy to circle back to the green trail where you left your jeep.

Yeah, but we'd be dealing with Memorial Day weekend traffic. Have driven those routes enough to know it gets bad around any holiday (or school starts, or school gets out, etc).

Yeti had posted that Camp MJ was one week earlier, which is why I was avoiding the 14th. Who's sure of the date?

It might just be me in the TJ. Don't want to wheel the CJ anymore without better gears.

We have a engine skid, steering box skid, rock rails, and some good bumpers.

Pencil this in for us/me if we can get a solid date. I'll work around it to go.
