Wanted to check the CCV elbows and hoses on the WJ 4.0 engine. Been a while since these were replaced.

After the first one broke, I tried some WD40 and a needle-nose pliers to get the rest. Only succeeded in breaking more pieces off.

What now? If I keep breaking pieces, can I eventually get the grommet and everything? What about pieces falling inside the valve cover?

A seal puller or screw driver will get it out with no problems. You can get a kit at the dealership that will replace all of those plastic components.

just be careful not to pry the valve cover

You mean not damage the valve cover while I'm prying off the plastic pieces? Not sure what I'd pry on the vc, but if it's bad, I can probably do it. :tinysmile_cry_t2:

Quit breaking my future ride Frank. :D

Lay a piece of wood from front grill to rear windshield area. Use that as your pry against.
We had the same trouble on the YJ's 4.0L and they were a PITA because they would start to break.
If they drop in, pull the vc and clean it out. Figure out what maintance you can do while you do it as well.

I did the same thing on mine. I just grabbed the grommet with pliers and pulled the entire assembly out as one piece.

This I wiggled it slow and the majority of it popped out as a chunk.

Got em both done. Learning curve is always steep for me, so second one went a lot easier even though it's harder to get to.

BUT... Chrys changed the elbow in the back, and the rubber and plastic hose assembly is actually a little too short. I think it will stay together but I'm going to look for different hoses.

Why do they do this to me?:eek::eek:

Thanks, guys, for the hints and advice.
