:tinysmile_cry_t:

Was cleaning/lubing brake caliper pins this morning. Good thing, they needed it. But see pic of one of the pins below, on the 8.8 rear axle.

First thing I noticed was that the rubber boot is torn. Then I realized that instead of the pin coming out, the sleeve in which the pin sits (that's the shiny part below my thumb) was coming out.

- Can I use a vise grips on the sleeve to get the pin out and still be able to wrench it all back together?
- Is this something for which it's wise to replace parts if available (boot, sleeve, and maybe the pin)
- Or is this a case where I really should replace the rear calipers?

Thanks for the advice.

Okay, found the answer, all those parts are replaceable. Now I only need to know what the 8.8 and brakes came out of (so Advance can find the parts).

I guess that leaves open the question of whether I OUGHT to replace the calipers anyway. Calipers like to go bad on me. Probably the two-foot driving technique when wheeling an auto trans.

Aren't most 8.8's out of Ford Explorers?

Yep. Mike said it was a 2000 Explorer.

Get this. The caliper pins, slides and boots are exactly the same for a D30 Wrangler axle and an 8.8 explorer axle. The old guy at the parts store who's seen everything (obviously, NOT at Advance Auto) couldn't believe it. But very convenient for me.

Anyway, it's all good now. Now it's time to fix what Yeti broke.
