Well I was driving home last Friday and my Jeep suddenly became very loud.

Turns out the back three feet of my exhaust on the right came loose. The exhaust clamp is fine but it broke a weld holding it up. Does anyone with a welder want to help me out?

Im not in a rush to get it fixed. Kinda like the sound anyway.haha, but will need to get it tacked in eventually. It looks like it was a novice weld job to begin with.

Are you serious........ Those were my 03 rubi ?????

yeah the inside part was too thin and they got seized(sp?) up on my hubs, it took me and my dad forever to get them back off, the wheels wouldn't spin, haha...

but they looked identical minus the thickness of the center part where the lug nut holes are... so Jeep probably had more beefy ones for the LJ's maybe? like for the extra weight or something? who knows. not your fault though man, so i shouldn't have gotten mad at ya.

but if you need some welding, bring it on by!

WOW... sorry about that... do you want some money back or something? Don't worry about the welding, now that I have mine, i just take care of it myself... Thanks for offering.

Check the PJ's label to make sure they're not flammable :D

that's funny you mention that actually... my wife is pissed off that all my t-shirts now have nice little welding splatter holes in them:) not to mention the scars on my arms from before I got welding sleeves to wear.... welding a long arm on, being on the ground, you get burned a lot... scars to remember the awesome build:)

but for the record, now i am much more safer, and use a huge welding blanket and my miller welding sleeves, also my welding helmet is attached to a hardhat:) no more burns in my head! haha....

Just get the old jean jacket and use it.
They sell a welder's cap/hat that is made to have the bill tuck into the back of your shirt to protect your neck while your makes is on.

Ill come by sometime Buck, but only if you wear the PJs.

I appreciate the help. Do you have a small scrap of Steel to weld on there. It looks like what was on there is pretty much gone.

If not, where would I get something like that?

Its probably a 5 minute job. I wouldn't mind getting some tutelage on welding either.

Probably wont be able to make it out this weekend, but maybe the following.

The electrician took care of the voltage issue and I'm now go to go with the welder.... I'm going to head out and pick up some scrap metal and start learning to weld.... WOOHOOOO!

I have some junk exhuast tube I've used to make hangers and cover holes in pipes and weld around.

Could get a piece from Advace or Vato zone too if you have one local.

D, I picked up a book at Lowes IIRC about welding, has alot of tips in it.

Clean metal is important, DO NOT USE BRAKE CLEANER OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.

Grind, wire disk, flapper disk, sander, then wipe down with damp rag. Good enough for most things.

Cleaner the metal the better the weld. And get used to black boogers. :tinysmile_twink_t2:

You look like you can weld better than me fawker. Does yours have infinite heat control, or is it set heat levels?

I have a bad habit of not running hot enough. Always turning it up a notch after I start.

Need to find more junk metal to practice on myself. You running a gas bottle?

Does yours have infinite heat control, or is it set heat levels?

It has various heat levels, wire feed speeds, and can be set to weld all types of metals.

You running a gas bottle?

Yes, sir!

I was intimidated at first, but give me a few months and I'll be welding like a champ. I'm going to practice for another hour or so tomorrow before I start working on the Zuk... come on over.

If she keeps bitching, tell her to shut the F%^&% up and do it herself. Don't tell her I said that however :tinysmile_twink_t2:

Saturday I'll be welding up Adam's new floor pans in his YJ, so if you want to swing by so we can knock out the exhaust, come on by. We hope to start early, so you can come as early or late as you want. but if we finish early we may be going to shoot some:) so earlier is better.

michanecash

Right on. I will try hard to get there this time. Shit always seems to go down when somethings planned. Where you going shooting?

ThinkMud
08-19-2010, 02:53 PM
Adam's friend has some private land they shoot on. But depending on the weather we may go to a range.
