So Im thinking that Im going to go ahead and switch over to Royal Purple in my diffs when I install my diff protection in the very near future (read before going to Crozet).
I figure I need the following things:
Total of 4 quarts of Royal Purple 75w140 for the front and rear diffs.
Something to scrape the old gasket off with.
RTV gasket sealer....any recommendations?????? Im thinking of going with the Lube Locker Gaskets.
Something to torque the bolts down with. Anybody got a loaner and know the specs to torque the bolts down to??????
Brake Cleaner for cleaning the diff out.
Have I forgotten anything?????

A couple of things that I do... I wear surgical type gloves, a mask and short sleeve shirt. Just incase the gear oil gets on me, a sniff of it makes me gag. I also keep plenty of paper towels and itty litter around for that just incase situation. Have fun.

To me, there is only one thing on this planet that smells better than gear oil.
Good old fashioned leaded gas!

The gas I put out at times is strong enough to clear the smell of gear oil out :)

Phillip, Check the bottom of the diff housing for a square drive plug. You can drain the fluid without removing the cover. We just replaced JC's gears and he had drain plugs on the bottom.

Hi- I did my diff fluid change recently and I believe the manual says to just tighten the bolts. It was not at all technical.
Oh...and the rubber gloves are a must!

Dave,
BUY the lube locker gaskets. They are awesome!!
Make it so you can always remove the cover to change out all the old fluid.
Also, in the gasket packaging, there is specs to not only how much to tighten the bolts, but what ORDER to tighten them down.
Great stuff.

Have I forgotten anything?????If you haven't done it, don't get any type of paper gasket they all will end up leaking, use the red high temp rtv you can get at the suto store, and don't buy expensive diff fluid, there is no point its all pretty much the same with exception if its got an LSD additive which you only need if you have a LSD diff that is not gear driven
