Do like I did and swap the axle for a junkyard set. You can get 3.55, 3.73 or maybe 4.10 from 4cyl models I think.

Fryed,
What kind of junkyard do you get these dogs at?? I've been to the Junkyards I'm familiar with in Stafford, and I could prbably do better buying dealer stock from a Parts Pimp driving a gold-plated Cadillac.

This was for an XJ, but I got them from Roy's near falmouth. from fredericksburg going north on rt1, go through the 17n light. Take the VERY next right after the light. It's maybe 100ft past the light. Go about 1 1/2 miles and you'll see Roy's junkyard sign on the left. Go about 300yds down the dirt road and you'll see it there. I got them for $150/pr from a 93 XJ with 3.73. The 4cyl have 4.10 but he didn't have any then. There's also Banks on Rt 1 near massaponax. They're both u-pull-it places. Roy's had about 6-8 various XJ's with a couple MJ's as well. Banks probably has about 10 XJ's.
Biggest problem would be the spring perches/coil buckets, but if you weigh the cost of new gears, and these axles will be strong enough, it would probably be cheaper (or free if you can do it yourself), to reweld the buckets/perches than swap gears.
dose he have any explorers there? You know what Im lookin for dont ya! I need the rear w/ 373s

banks has a ton of explorers.
8.8 w/4.10 rear axle and discs. $650 at banks.
Roy's is gonna get me a quote back, but said he'd beat anywhere in town.

naaaa. lookin for a 8.8
heh... I was going to go with the 8.8, but I got a great deal on a set of 39" MT baha's. So now I gotta build the jeep around the tires, and I don't think the 8.8 will cut it with 39's :(

Roy's has one for $350, out and ready to pick up out of a 98 so it has disk brakes. That's
an OK price. Check car-parts.com. I've seen them as low as $250 on there, but not
within 200miles. He's an OK guy though, so you might be able to haggle it down to $300
or $275 or so.

Might be easier and just as cost effective to go with a 4.10 loaded 8.8 rear, then just put 4.10's in the front to match.
Then you gain disc brakes in the rear at least.. and the posi-lock BS or whatever it is the explorers have.
