Coming back from P.A. I started to hear a high pitched noise from under the Jeep. Yesterday on the way to work it sounded like somthing in the drivetrain was gonna explode - loud rumbling and REALLY high pitched noise from the drivetrain. I was stressing that it was the tranny or transfer case. :tinysmile_cry_t:
No way it was gonna make the drive to Chantilly so it went to Ourisman Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Alexandria. So far the experiance is good.
The problem is the front R/P and various bearings are shot. How it happened I dont know. I have not been in the water since before the Alloy USA shafts were installed. The front axle got new inner/outer seals and oil under warranty when the rear oil seal was fixed just a few months ago (And both axles got new brake pads), and I pull the fill plugs and check the diff oil whenever I change the engine oil. I changed the engine oil/filter and air filter, checked the master cyl/tranny/transfer case/diff levels, and filled the washer fluid before I left for P.A.
The Dealership is going to rebuild the front diff under the 7/70 powertrain warranty.

That sucks but it's cool all at the same time. At least you have a cool dealership that is willing to do the work and not try to pawn it off as damage resulting from the lift and/or larger tires.

They liked the Jeep. I had a nice talk with the staff there. They will not deny warranty work unless the aftermarket part or install of it actually caused the problem. I explained how modded Jeeps get treated at some dealerships and that I was hesitant to bring it there. They said not to worry. So far Im being treated very fairly.
Would be a good reason to regear to 4.88, but alas - after holliday spending, cashless.

Sounds like you found a dealership to keep dealing with! I know what you mean about regearing, but I also know what you mean about the holidays putting the binders on excess spending.

Yeah, could have turned out alot worse. The $100 7/70 deductable is gonna cover it. I would have hated to see full charge on an axle rebuild. Im just wondering why it went bad.
Im home from school and the unit is off, so I finally get some time with the family. The kids had a great X mas. Nancy worked full time this year, so the kids got things that they have really wanted for a long time......
I actually enjoyed putting thier things together and the surgical procedures of removing things from boxes. :)

Gotta call from the Jeep dealer today. It has been making a loud tapping on cold start for awhile now. They started it to pull it into the shop and begin work on the axle this morning and heard it. Now they are replacing the cam and lifters as well. Still for the same $100 under warranty.
Diddnt Diego's Jeep have this problem as well?

Hmmmmm, the dealership is telling me that the cause of the failure was that one of the bearings was installed improperly inside the diff.
Ill find out which one when I pick up the Jeep. Hopefully it will be done tonight.

What about the Cam?

Still no Jeep yet - hopefully tomorrow.
They called me today and said the engine was back together and they were working on the diff. He said an improperly installed bearing caused the failure. Neither one of us had much time, I was running off to a meeting. Ill ask about the cam when I talk to them again.

Last night I went to pick up the Jeep. It was actually in the bay where the service writers are as I walked in. Then they drove it back into the shop. Seems there is a noise coming from the REAR axle as well.
They have completely replaced the entire front axle with the exception of the cover, shafts, and knuckles/bearings. Now they are replacing the rear carrier bearings.

Jeep is done! :D
Shiny new axle in the front w/new ball joints. They reinstalled my BTF cover and ORO steering, and realigned the front wheels. Ill just have to have a new set of JKS miniskids welded on. I would have to say this is a 'Mod Friendly' Dealership. 3 pages of warranty work.
