As the season gets colder we forget the safety of a torpedo heater in a cold shop. use this image to remind us how dangerous they are. My buddies 2 car garage detached from his house in opal, Va and another friends suburban parked between the house and the garage. One burp from the torpedo heater and 30 seconds later!!

Thats how I heat mine. I take the time to make sure nothing flamable is near by. But I'll take more time now

That's why my garage is heated and cooled with a heat pump. Gasoline and propane fumes collect on the floor while natural gas is lighter than air so it dissipates easier. The bullet,torpedo,salamander style heaters are usually low to the floor so it's a bad combo. National fuel code requires any fuel burning appliance be eighteen inches off the floor when installed in a garage FYI
