View Full Version : Steering linkage questions

As I was just discussing with Truck yesterday, I am having a minor issue with my new pitman arm and the draglink too.

I have the new pitman about 85% seated, but it won't go any further. I'm using a 3/4 drive socket and a cheater bar. I cleaned the splines on the steering box with a wire brush, and then lubed it and the pitman arm.

I'm afraid of damaging something I'm pulling so hard.

The draglink bolted up on the knuckle perfectly fine. The end to the pitman arm runs through and I can tighten the nut almost enough to get the cotter pin in. It needs another 1/4" or so to fully be seated.

I assume this is due to it being a cheaper pitman arm. :tinysmile_eyebrow_t

I was thinking of heating the pitman up in the oven, then taking it outside and trying to bolt it up hoping it had expanded enough to fully seat.

I think it could be driven as things are so damn tight now. The nut for the pitman has about 3/4" or more thread sticking out below it, so it's not like it's hanging off there. Same thing for the draglink, another couple turns of the nut and it would probably be OK.

Thoughts? Input?

Thanks!

i hate rigging things
but maybe you could either take it to a machine shop and get them to get it on or drill another hole and pin it together...i might be thinking to cheap just my two cents...

I appreciate the reply, but I ended up getting it done.

Thanks.
