The weather is getting colder, and the Hollidays will be upon us before we know it!
However, there may be an opportunity to get together as a club, show off our Jeeps, and help needy children in our own community have a great Christmas!
We are thinking of having a Toys for Tots run on the 22nd of November. The run would start in the morning at Sterling and end at Quantico Marine Base. There will be 3 stops along the way so Jeeps can join anywhere along the route. Once the toys are presented to the Marines we would have a lunch get together and then you can depart whenever you wish.
Participants would just have to bring a new, unwrapped toy thats worth about 10-20 dollars.
I am in contact with the Toys for Tots coordinator and Public Affairs Office on Quantico. Post if this is an event that you would be interested in!

Any update on this for the club, Alex?
I'm still planning to participate, but I'm going to be gone for awhile. Will buy toys when I get back.

Four with several maybe's...... looks like a go.
Sorry for lack of info on this. I was deployed and then in an Army school for most of the last two weeks. Tomorrow I am off dty and will coordinate with the Quantico Public Affairs office, the Marine T for T coordinator, and the resturaunt. Then I will finalize the details, post them here and cross post to other forums.
Lets try to encourage MAX participation! The toys for Tots event will provide joy to many kids who otherwise might not have a good Christmas.
The reply from the Quantico PAO to my e mail is below:
I think it is an AWESOME idea!!! We were hoping to get either a vehicle
club or motorcycle club to do that very thing! I just had not had time to
pursue it yet. Our warehouse is not on base. It is located at 3619
Jefferson Davis Highway -- 2 miles south of the back gate of the base on Rt.
1, next to the 7-11. I would suggest you make a reservation at the Globe &
Laurel restaurant very near that location. It is really nice and can
accommodate a large group. Of course, you could go a little farther south
and go to a number of restaurants on Rt. 610. I will ask for media coverage
-- just send me the exact itinerary! If you need to reach me, please call
my cell below. I'm not in the office much this time of year -- my days are
spent at the warehouse or in the community.

I know this might be taken as a stupid question but has anyone made arrangements to collect toys at the meeting points? so far the only toy collection i know of is the one Will and I set up at the school.

Not a stupid question at all! :) As far as I know, thats the only toy collection point set up so far. Diego, could you contact Chantilly Dodge and ask them to set up a collection point? Also notify them that we will be gathering there. We could name them as a collection point sponsor and it would not cost them anything. Toys collected should be new and un wrapped in original packaging. Suggested in $10 to $25 range.
I have been busy working on this today. I have contacted the Quantico Public Affairs Representitive and Confirmed. I am trying to contact the warehouse co ord. I have made the resturaunt reservation.
The waypoints will be:
Sterling Chick Fil A (Begin 7 AM depart for Chantilly Dodge 8:30)
Chantilly Dodge (Begin 8 AM depart for Falls Church High School 9:30)
Falls Church High School (Begin 9 AM depart for Springfield Mall/Silver Diner 10:30)
Springfield Mall/Silver Diner (Begin 10 AM depart for Toys for Tots warehouse 11:30)
Toys for Tots warehouse (Arrive approx noon - depart for lunch 1 PM)
Globe and Laurel Resturaunt - tasteful family establishment owned by a retired Marine, with Marine decor - highly recommended by both the Quantico PAO and several Marines I have spoken with (2 min away from the warehouse)
Optional for after lunch: National Museum of the Marine Corps. (5 min away from the resturaunt) Displays that cover from the Colonial times to the present. An exceptional view of the history of the Marine Corps.
I will contact the Silver Diner and ask them to be a sponsor and set up a drop box.
We need volunteers from the club who will be participating to take charge of each waypoint and lead to the next one. I can take the Springfield Mall/Silver Diner location and also lead the remainder of the event from there.
Tonight, after I co ordinate with the warehouse I will post the actual event thread and continue to use this one for planning.

Any of the first three locations are easy enough for me, so let me know where you most need a volunteer to help coordinate.

Frank, you are the only one to step forward and volunteer. Participation on this looks slim. Too bad - we really could have helped the kids and the Marines while building good public relations for the club. I can get the media there.
So far I have no other volunteers for any of the other sites. I never heard back from Diego on Chantilly Dodge.
If we dont get any soon I will edit the posts and cancel all the meeting locations except Springfield. The few participants can meet me there and we can still convoy down. If this happens - could you coordinate with Mike to pick up the toys from the school? Even if this run only has 5 Jeeps its somthing positive.
For those planning to attend. I NEED TO KNOW IF YOU PLAN ON HAVING LUNCH. ONLY ONE PERSON HAS RSVP'd. and I need to notify the resturaunt by Wed.

Right! :)
I was referring to this from 2 posts back: We need volunteers from the club who will be participating to take charge of each waypoint and lead to the next one. I can take the Springfield Mall/Silver Diner location and also lead the remainder of the event from there.
Neutral tone - So far we only have leaders comitted to two waypoints (Myself and Frank) Thats what I meant. If Frank takes one, mabe Sterling or Chantilly - we still need two more leaders to round up people at the way points the way the plan is now. However, there are really only about 10 people who have comitted to attend. We could problably cut the waypoints back to only the school and Springfield Mall.
I still need all who are going to attend to RSVP with me by PM for lunch or not. The resturaunt wants a number by Wed.

Yes I need the total number for lunch by tomorrow. They know some extras may show up at the last minute but they need to have a general idea. When I made the reservation, I told them between 10 and 50.

Hey gang! I am off on saturday(22nd) and would absolutely love to assist any way I can! Has the Sterling position been taken yet? -I am 4 minutes away from Chic-fil-a....
Count me in on the entire run in any event... I might even be able to wrangle up a reporter from the Herndon paper to do a piece on this(small-town people love this, and this club could use MORE recognition)....
I also have a question:
is there any possible way that BWJ can create a "BETTER" way to communicate with it's members? This site(in my opinion)seems "dated".....
Could we not get emailed directly with upcoming events?
As I see it, I only get a response when I make one from the "New Post" section.

Craig we could use you at Sterling Chick filet if your up for it.
The website has the abilities to do that I think but we turned that feature off so peoples email would not get stuffed with every post from the site.

Not really sure who is coming with toys but you might want to run to target and get a few cheap toys to. don't spend more than $10.00
