OK, now that it is warmer, I tried the AC and no cold air. I assumed I just needed a charge, so I bought a freon refill kit with a gauge. I hooked it up and it read full.
So does this mean my compressor is bad? Is there some way to check it? Or is there a posibility something else is wrong?

There is usually a relay that runs off the dash switch to bring the compressor on. There is also a freeze switch that turn the compressor off when the coil gets too cold. And there is always the dash switch. I haven't had any electrical problems with mine yet, just a freon leak so I'm not sure of the specifics on a Jeep. My last Jeep with A/C was a 1980 CJ-7 and the only problem I had with it was a kinked drain hose so everytime I went around a curve you would get freezing cold water on your feet until I replaced it.
man...... ya gotta show me where all these switch thingies are your talking bout?

I think I just wet my pants on this one.
Truck, is the clutch cycling on and of really fast? or at all? dose the light on your hvac control come on when you cut the ac on? there is a ac compressor button in the hvac control panel in the dash...... thats the light im talking about. if all that works the compressor should cycle. If not try jumping the high side switch in the ac line. Its the plug in connector on the reciver dryer. just jump the two in the plug w/ a 10 guage or better wire. Hope this helps ya!!

The a/c "button" is called a switch. Buttons are on your shirt. The plug you are bypassing is connected to the compressor "relay" because your "button" cannot handle the load of the compressor. There may be some differences, I haven't worked on one in a Jeep recently.
What are you talking about? did you see my post??????

Got in the TJ today, went to turn on a/c and there's no switch. It's on the f*cking dial. I was thinking about my truck I guess. On top of that it didn't work, low on freon again. My apologies to 02TJ. I checked it with a sniffer and even put dye in it and still haven't located the leak. Does anyone know if there is a usual place they leak on a 2000 model TJ?
the lines at the condenser (out by the radiator) usualy leak.

Truck,
I am no HVAC expert, but when my XJ was reading that it was full of freon and had no leaks, I wound up having to get a new compressor and condensor. As for the checks to be run from this point, I am not sure, but I wanted to let you know what that meant for my last AC problem. If memory serves correct, Advanced Auto gave me a pretty good deal on the parts and a better warranty if you spend the little bit extra to get a few smaller associated parts (changed the warranty from 1 year to 3).

Thanks Jeff, I haven't had time to mess with it.

No worries...maybe we can put our collective $0.04 into it this weekend.
Hey, are you up at that funny shaped building today?

O2TJ asked if the compressor clutch cycles (spins) on and off. If it does then you are low on refrigerant.
(I keep a can of 134a to carry me through the summer..it is cheaper than replacing the evaporator...)
If it doesn't then you need one of our pros to look at it.
