so after coming back from Crozet, I notice that my steering is off by quite a bit. have to hold the wheel pointed to the passenger side like making a right hand turn. my center link/tie rod (i've seen it called both now) is a big daddy rod and doestn look like its bent or even scratched.
So whats broke now?
Im going to take her in later this week for an oil change and to get the alignment done.
Any ideas what I can do to keep my steering set?

I hit a curb once in a toyota tercel and actually stripped a tie-rod's threads!
I'm sure a Jeeps are stouter, but it's something to think of......
Gonzo out.

Well Phil your not going to likre this but the last 3 times i was on a trail ride i have had to reset my steering. I think the tie rod keeps bending. If you read the write ups on tj steering they tell you to use a yj sytem or a high steer. The tj just keeps bending until it breaks under hard ussage.

I guess I didn't beat on mine enough. I thought we went through some hairy stuff(for a stocker) at dry river, i.e. dropping down into tree roots and the like. My steering is fine, but I did blow out my steering dampener.
What a PITA that was! Damn those tapered studs and their propensity to freezing solid! Once I got a pitman arm puller it was a breeze.

Rest something flat (a level maybe?) on the tie rod to make sure its still straight. Check you alignment after that.
