................the switch that turns on the part-time light?
On the t-box? or under the console like my Blazer? The light not coming on
bugs me, especially when I forget to go back to 2 wheel on pavement!
I want to trace wires since a bulb change was no help.

Thanks!

What kind of vechile are you talking about? I don't have "part-time" 4 wheel drive on mine??? Is this something new? :)

2000 TJ. There are two lights on the dash, part-time and full-time.
The owner's manual only mentions the part-time light. I'm told it should come
on at bulb-check, but doesn't(yes, I've replaced the bulb,3 times!), nor in 4hi or lo. I know full time is all 4 wheels all the time with a diff in the t-box, ala LandRover, but I'm not sure of the Wrangler. I'm still a noob in the Jeep world. My POS Haynes manual talks of a vac motor for locking the front diff, like my Blazer does, but the TJ has no such thing. In 2 hi, you can rotate the front prop shaft, so it must spin all the time when the wheels are on the ground, wear and tear be damned. It works fine, I just want a reminder that I'm in it , so I don't tear it up on the street.

With a TJ there is no such things as "part time" 4wd. You have 4 high, 4 low, 2 wheel drive and neutral.

Now, I did some reading and found this description used in several instances, which may explain this:

anything with four driven wheels and low-range gearing as four-wheel drive and anything without the low-range as all-wheel drive. Where four-wheel drive is mentioned hereafter, much of the information will apply to all-wheel drive as well (keep in mind gearing is where we make the distinction). We also reserve the term "part-time" for 4WD systems that operate as two-wheel drive (usually on the rear wheels) until the driver changes it by switch, pushbutton, or lever. The term "full-time" describes a 4WD system that always operates as a four-wheel drive, but with no driver-selectable 2WD option. It isn't necessary to agree with our definitions, but at least understand our slightly arbitrary classification system. See glossary for further clarification.

They are part-time 4wd, you can be 2wd or 4wd, while some XJ's with the 242? t-case are full time, always in 4wd mode. (called SelecTrac or something like that)

yeah it's 242 and 241 or 243 comes to mind too... maybe zj? but I didn't think they had them in tj/yj.

Xj's had them, ZJ's had a system with the same basic idea as the Xj's, but was named something else. QuadraTrac?
