What's better, a Corporate 8.25 or a Dana 35 rear axle? Why?

97+ 8.25.
29 spline and larger ring gear. Still c-clip though. Pre-97 had 27-spline rear.
29 spline is slightly weaker than a D44, but much stronger than a 35.
8.8 obvious reasons! can get them w/ disc brakes, heaver axles, just weld on spring perch. and obtain some brake cables from a 95 or later and a yoke adapter.

It seems like both of my XJ's have rear 8.25 corporate rear axles :)
Thanks for the feedback...

You can find lost of posts on this topic on NAXJA.org. You'd be pretty hard pressed to find a lot of fans of the D35 out there. And while the 8.25 is better, it's only marginally better. The ring gear is bigger and the axle shafts are a little bit bigger, but it's still a c-clip semi-floater. The 8.25 does have a longer pinion making for a shorter driveshaft than with either a 35 or 44, which isn't a big deal until you get driveline vibes. There is still pretty good aftermarket support for the 8.25, but it's nothing like what the Dana axles have. FWIW, I plan on swapping out my 8.25 for a 44, but that's because I want a full-floater and a selectable locker.
